Parco1923 bottles the essence of Abruzzo

Abruzzo’s flora and fauna inspires a beauty line

Juniper berries, Honeysuckle, Angelica, Iris, Maggiociondolo, Sweet Iris, Beech Wood. These are the scents of Parco Nazioanle d’Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise and the nostalgic perfume of the childhood of Ugo Morosi e Paride Vitale, founders of Parco1923.

Friends since their days in Pescasseroli, a tiny town in the heart of Monti Marsicani, (mountains within in the national park), came to their senses and scents, in the early 2010s, with olfactory inspiration- Morosi and Vitale wanted to create a perfume that recalled the fresh air and floral abundance of one of the most beautiful protected greeneries in all of Italy.

“The beauty and uniqueness of a millennials-spanning eden, Parco nazionale d’Abruzzo Lazio e Molise, enhanced through the elements that characterize it. Parco1923 is the Italian story of a territory, which transforms that reminds us how much greenery and nature are essential for building a better future.”

– Ugo Morosi, co-founder Parco1923

Teaming up with Luca Maffei, one of Italy’s most prolific and important Italian noses and an collaborating with a calvary of local botanists, Morosi and Vitale spent two years conjuring up their very first perfume and subsequently brand Parco1923, named for the park and its 1923 founding date.

Bottling the essence of Abruzzo

A melange of green, Parco1923 is inspired by the parco’s native flora such Angelica, Maggiociondolo and Beech wood, though Morosi is quick to remind that “We do not use any flowers from the park. It is a natural reserve and they must remain untouched.  Instead, we studied the flowers with the park’s botanists and “reconstructed” the scents.”

There are thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of flowers in Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo has thousands, and many of them are extraordinarily rare and unique like the recently discovered  Giaggiolo della Marsica (Iris marsica), the tiny and carnivorous Pinguicola Villetta Barrea (Pinguicula vallis regiae), the orchidea fantasma (Epipogium aphyllum), and the ghost orchid which camouflages to surrounding leaves and it’s the rare orchid  Scarpetta di Venere (Cypripedium calceolus) that inspired Parco1923’s second perfume Scarpetta di Venere.

Fresh, pleasant and fragrant, Parco1923 and Scarpetta di Venere are keystones to a wellbeing collection that includes bath foam, exfoliating hand cleanser and nourishing cream.  Every product is organic, artisanal made and sourced from within Abruzzo, including the packaging – vintage inspiration mixed with tradizione abruzzese  in forest green bottle, capped with pietra gentile, local stone. Parco1923’s symbol? The Mariscan brown bear, of course.

World Heritage Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise

“Parco Nazionale d’Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise has an immense fauna and floral heritage that includes unique species such as the Marsicano brown bear, and ancient forests where trees can both grow and die without ever being contaminated by man for centuries. “

The Parco Nazionale has always been special. Founded in 1922 as 500 hectares (1235 acres) of protected natural land, it is the oldest in the Apennines, and Italy’s second oldest national park. Since 1922, preservation has been a constant focus, protecting and encouraging animals including the near-extinct Marsican brown bear, the Appenine Wolf, the Abruzzo Chamois, and the white-backed woodpecker.  In 2017, it became a UNESCO World Heritage site. Today’s park is more than 5000 hectares (124,000 acres, another nearly 200,000 acres of buffer) and entirely green. Nearly 70% of the park is covered in forests of beautiful beech, while through the expanse, there is abundant flora including silver birch and and mountain pines, and incredible flowers like

“How many times do we think that in order to admire unspoiled landscapes we have to go who knows where, forgetting that in the heart of our country there is a region – Abruzzo which with its naturalistic parks contains extraordinary beauties.”
