Statement swimwear is here. That’s right: for the second year in a row, we’ve partnered up with Lido, the apparel and swimwear brand founded by Daria Stankiewicz, to create the ultimate line of beach-ready pieces to make a splash this summer – and look the part whether you’re lounging by the pool or heading for a swim into the sea (may we suggest Hotel Il Pellicano as the place to do both?).
Called Love is Love and inspired by the hues of the iris, the collection is the epitome of poolside dressing up, and features a cool crisscross one-piece, a gorgeous bikini and a semi-sheer silk-cotton sarong, each channelling the multicoloured energy of the rainbow.
To finish off the capsule is a pair of degradé swim shorts in the shades of “Negroni,” the best-selling colour of last year’s collection, whose main influences were the Aperol Spritz and, you guessed it, the Negroni – two of the most classic Italian summer drinks.
But these aren’t just stunners. Made with super-soft lycra for a flawless fit and ultra-fast drying materials designed to be under the sun, this is swimwear you can actually swim in, and feel great as you do.
After all, that, to us, is what summer beach fashion should be all about.
We sat down with Daria to discuss Love is Love and hear about the creative process behind it. Read on, then shop the line: it is set to become the main event of your holiday wardrobe this summer.
What are the main themes of Love is Love?
Rainbow and love!
This is the second collab with ISSIMO. How does it feel? How was working together again?
It was a fantastic second experience. We absolutely love making prints with ISSIMO and hope to continue doing so in the future. Shaded prints are complicated to make on beachwear, and the whole Lido team invested incredible energy to make the multi-colour shade come out in the best way. We are really very happy with the result of the collaboration.
The capsule features a sarong too. How would you suggest styling it?
Tied at the waist and paired with a colourful halter top. I think that would look great.
There are also a pair of swim shorts in the collection, inspired by the colors of last year's Negroni. What prompted you and Marie-Louise to include them?
The “Negroni” print was last season’s best seller so we liked the idea of trying it on another garment and continuing to communicate with a male audience as well. The Lido man likes basic swimwear, but like the Lido woman, he likes to play with colours and doesn’t take himself too seriously.
What are the basic rules every good swimsuit should have?
Quick drying and lightness.
Are you team bikini or team one-piece?
Bikini, always – though I appreciate the convenience of a one-piece.
How would you describe Lido in three words?
Holiday-ready, carefree, and happy.
What do you think ISSIMO and Lido have in common?
There are so many things that tie us together but this year definitely the passion for colours.
Plans for the summer?
The south of France and, fingers crossed, Ischia, wearing a Love is Love piece.
