Baia degli Angeli officially opened its doors in 1975, a time when the global music scene had a serious case of disco fever. Under the vision of owner and visionary Giancarlo Tirotti, the club quickly earned a reputation as a hotspot for radically innovative music, ‘avant-garde’ entertainment and hedonistic revelry that was an immersive escape from reality. Located a hilltop above Gabicce Mare bordering Rimini and Pesaro-Urbino, the venue boasted panoramic views of the Adriatic Sea, which offered a mesmerising backdrop for glamorous evenings of disco-antics and flamboyant partying.

This was no ordinary nightclub by the sea, it was a cultural phenomenon. With its futuristic design featuring angelic statues, vast terraces and sprawling dance floors, it transported party-goers to another ‘universe’. The club is regarded as the epicentre of the Italo-Disco movement, a genre characterised by addictive melodies, synthesisers, and pulsating beats that reflected the experimental creativity of the era.

A former gymnasium perched on the Adriatic coastline, Baia degli Angeli was transformed into a monumental feat of architecture that has been described as ‘celestial’ and ‘other-worldly’ by many who experienced it. Its architecture featured a surreal blend of classical and futuristic elements, with its exterior reminiscent of an ancient Roman temple adorned with towering columns and statues of angels that enhanced its surreal atmosphere. It also boasted vast terraces lined by swimming pools. Inside, the club was an alluring maze of opulent ballrooms and a main dance floor encased in glass. Imagine dancing all night in a disco daze, feeling like you’re floating amongst the stars.

The club’s sound system was also a state-of-the-art innovation for its time, ensuring that every beat immersed the crowd in a soul-stirring experience of disco at its finest.
