And just like that, ISSIMO is three! That’s right. In the blink of an eye, our fabulous platform celebrating all-things Italy has gone from being a small project dreamed up by Pellicano Hotels Group CEO and Creative Director Marie-Louise Sciò to becoming a fully-fledged venture spanning editorial features, fantastic brands and a thousand curiosities to discover daily – including a slew of insightful interviews with Italy’s finest artisans, designers, and creative minds.
It’s been a wild, wanderlust-filled ride, and we couldn’t be prouder. Today, ISSIMO is where Italian culture, timeless style, and pure joie de vivre collide – a space that can transport you to the most beautiful corners of Italy and fill your soul with wonder and inspiration.
Whether it’s strolling through the sun-kissed streets of Rome in search of the perfect souvenir or unearthing the maze-like centro storico of Palermo, we’ve taken you on countless journeys across the Bel Paese, with more yet to come, to inspire you in exploring this unique boot-shaped country we call home.
Just as well, we’ve strived to make ISSIMO a virtual treasure chest overflowing with Italianità, with a selection of carefully handpicked products and labels to ignite your imagination, celebrate craftsmanship, and showcase the essence of ‘Made in Italy.’
We’ve done that through the classics – the iconic designs of Gaetano Pesce, the plush nightwear of Schostal, the wonderful ceramics of Bitossi, the stunning prints of Lisa Corti and the masculine lines of Battistoni – but also by championing a crop of eclectic new names from the world of Italian lifestyle, from Allagiulia with her fab Friulane to Amotea and her resort-ready garments.
Along the way, we, too, have had a go at crafting things we thought you’d love.
Our collaborations with some of our favourite players from the world of fashion and design are a case in point.
You fell head over heels for ISSIMO x Aquazzura flats – and will fall even harder for our Scholl x ISSIMO capsule! – had the chance to bring the Italian Orto home with our ISSIMO x Byredo Candle, and made a splash in shades of Negroni and Aperol Spritz with our ISSIMO x Lido swimwear.
But you also embraced the Pelli-vibes with our very own line of hotel souvenirs – each one a piece of our beloved three properties, Hotel Il Pellicano, Mezzatorre, and La Posta Vecchia Hotel.
It’s a joy to say that ISSIMO is now a community of passionate Italophiles, united by their love for the Italian way of life – a bit like an Italian family, ready to welcome you with open arms over a plate of spaghetti al pomodoro and share their secrets for living life to the fullest.
As we turn three and continue to evolve and grow – expect new brilliant features and collaborations your way soon – we thought we’d hear a few words from the woman that started it all, Marie-Louise.
Her biggest takeway? From virtual trips to exclusive shopping experiences, ISSIMO is all about keeping wanderlust alive in your hearts and sprinkle a dash of Italian magic into your lives, because it makes everything better.
So, fellow Italy enthusiasts, let’s raise our glasses to ISSIMO. Here’s to the next three years and beyond, filled with endless adventures, captivating stories, and unforgettable moments.
ISSIMO is 3! How does it feel?
It feels good to see an idea come to life and then walk with its own legs! My favourite saying is “piano piano anche le uova camminano” — slowly slowly, even eggs walk. I think ISSIMO has been doing just that, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved and will achieve still.
Let’s go back to the start…Why did you decide to launch ISSIMO?
I always like to say that ISSIMO is the digital extension of our Pellicano universe, allowing us to bring the essence of our hotels beyond their physical boundaries. It emerged from the desire to encapsulate every aspect of the sensory journey offered by our hotels within a single digital platform. What better way than a website to do so, right?
From the beginning, I embraced the deliberate eclecticism as the core aspect of the project – the fact that, just like our Pelli-world, ISSIMO would contain multiple, magical worlds.
Why do you think people keep turning to Scholl when it comes to footwear?
It has something to do with the uniqueness of Scholl. There is no other brand out there that combines such an aesthetic appeal and being comfortable at the same time. Our shoes are good looking and easy to walk in. That’s part of our heritage, and what we aim to achieve with every shoe we produce.
Who is ISSIMO for?
ISSIMO is for the curious. A place to discover Italy more in depth, and uncovering the essence of Italian culture. It revolves around the notion of exploration.
What do you think makes it special?
What sets ISSIMO apart is its multidisciplinary approach. Unlike most platforms that concentrate on a single field, ISSIMO covers a wide range of topics, from fashion and design to food, culture, people and travel stories. I like to think we showcase the magnificence of Italy as a country. ISSIMO is a tribute to the Bel Paese,
Do you have a few favourites among the many products we stock?
All of them! All the collaborations and brands we have on ISSIMO hold a special place in my heart because they showcase the utmost Italian excellence. So it’s really hard to pick a favourite.
Has the ethos behind ISSIMO stayed the same since you launched it in 2020?
Oh yes. The constant search for quality.
If you had to describe ISSIMO in three words…
ITALIAN QUALITY ( I )LOVE.
Lots of collabs and new arrivals for summer 2023. What are some of the pieces and items you're most excited about?
Where to start! Byredo, Scholls, Loretta Caponi, LGR…and more to come but I can’t spoil the surprise.
What do you envision for ISSIMO’s future?
I want ISSIMO to be the one-stop-shop for everything Italian – travel, food, fashion, accessories, beauty, culture, design, stories.
How are you celebrating the anniversary?
With a glass of biodynamic Italian wine I just discovered called Ameri.
