Hotel Il Pellicano celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, and we couldn’t be prouder. Long a symbol of understated luxury and Mediterranean allure, our gem perched on the cliffs of Tuscany’s Argentario Coast has witnessed and made its fair share of history over the decades, turning into the go-to retreat for discerning travelers and A-list celebrities, artists and bon viveurs.
This diamond jubilee is not just a milestone, but a testament to the fact the Tuscan resort has gone from being a private escape for two people in love to a true icon of hospitality and Italian excellence. There is, truly, no place like Hotel Il Pellicano. As we look back at the past 60 years, its legacy shines brighter than ever – a nod to all that there’s still to come.
A paradise love story
A short history lesson in case you need it: the story of Hotel Il Pellicano began not as a business venture but as a grand romance. In 1965, British aviator Michael Graham and his wife, American socialite Patsy Daszel, fell in love with this secluded slice of Tuscan coastline, and decided to transform it into a private hideaway for them and their jet-setting friends. Soon, the place grew into an exclusive hotel, where privacy, elegance, and la dolce vita reigned supreme.
By the 1970s, Il Pellicano had started welcoming Hollywood A-listers like Charlie Chaplin, media royalty such as Jackie Kennedy, luminaries like the Agnellis and avant-garde artists like Juergen Teller, John Swope, and Slim Aarons, whose iconic photos came to capture its charm and glamorous appeal.
Its status as the place-to-be further solidified in the late 70s, when Roberto Sciò took ownership and heralded the hotel into its next exciting chapter as steward of Italian class.
Quiet luxury and timeless style
In the decades since, the status of Hotel Il Pellicano has remained pretty much unchanged: This was and is a place where timeless style has precedence over trends, and an intimate, personable definition of luxury shines through every single detail.
The arrival of Marie-Louise Sciò in 2015 as its new CEO and Creative Director has only confirmed those traits, and further modernised the property’s ethos. Today, Hotel Il Pellicano is synonymous with a cool, chic, in-the-know lifestyle; a love for all-things fun and sophisticated; and the firm belief that Italians really do it better.
Its 60th anniversary celebrations will be a case in point. From exclusive happenings to fab new collabs, the events in store for 2025 promise to homage the past while looking brightly into the future, and have guests experience unforgettable sojourns.

Hotel Il Pellicano goes to London
From February 17 to February 22, you’ll find a slice of Hotel Il Pellicano at Claridge’s in London, for a bit of dolce vita in the British capital. Our brilliant chef Michelino Gioia and his team will be in residence at the Mayfair hotel alongside legendary barman Federico Morosi, who’ll be whipping up some of his signature ItalianISSIMO cocktails at the bar for the whole week.
