We love spring in our hotels. This is the season where nature awakens, the crowds have yet to arrive, and the Mediterranean is bathed in soft, golden light. Visiting at this time of year is a bit of a well-kept secret among savvy-travelers – the perfect moment to explore landscapes in bloom, indulge in Italy’s seasonal flavours, and embrace experiences that blend adventure, culture, and slow, sun-drenched days at La Posta Vecchia, Mezzatorre Hotel & Thermal Spa and Hotel Il Pellicano.
But don’t just take our word for it. Instead, read below to hear directly from those who know our properties best year-round: our concierges!
That’s right. To give you a little travel inspo, we’ve asked them to share some of the most exciting, wanderlusty and plain fun things to do around our hotels in the spring.
Here’s what awaits.
La Posta Vecchia: A Roman Spring in Full Bloom
Spring at La Posta Vecchia means long days spent immersed in Lazio’s timeless beauty. The season’s highlight? The Sagra del Carciofo Romanesco, which takes place from April 11-13. The fair honours the famed Roman artichoke – tender, flavourful, and steeped in tradition – with a mix of stalls and menus (we even have our very own at the property!) offering a delectable glimpse into the myriad ways to enjoy this beloved ingredient.
Beyond the festival, the countryside beckons. Take to the rolling hills of Cerveteri on foot or by bike, tracing the paths of ancient Etruscans, or venture to the Monumento Naturale Palude di Torre Flavia, a protected wetland teeming with migratory birds – an untouched pocket of nature where the beauty of spring takes centre stage.
Mezzatorre: A Symphony of Nature and Culture on Ischia
At Mezzatorre In Ischia, spring draws out the island’s artistic soul and natural splendour.
The best place to enjoy them both? The enchanted Giardini La Mortella, the lush botanical gardens conceived by Susana Walton, wife of the English composer William, with the intention of creating an environment that would inspire her husband. Here, spring weekends see the arrival of a series of classical concerts held amidst the exotic flora – a musical escape that is a true ode to the season.
More into the wild side? Then consider hiking Monte Epomeo to look at the island from its highest peak. The ascent is rewarded with breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, with bursts of spring wildflowers carpeting the volcanic landscape. A picnic at the summit is the best way to wrap up the experience – followed of course by a visit to our spa and its healing thermal waters.
Hotel Il Pellicano: Tuscany, Tasted and Explored
At Hotel Il Pellicano, spring is an invitation – to go on an adventure, to explore, and, of course, celebrate life’s simple pleasures with a well-earned glass of vino.
The season is ideal to glide through Monte Argentario’s coastal roads and countryside on the hotel’s sleek Ducati e-bikes – electric-powered rides that offer a sustainable, stylish way to uncover Tuscany’s hidden gems, from windswept cliffs to quiet fishing villages.
For a dive into history, venture inland to Pitigliano, Sovana, and Sorano, three medieval jewels carved into the Tuscan rock that charm with their maze-like alleyways, Etruscan tombs, and Renaissance-era charm, while the nearby thermal waters of Saturnia offer a blissful, mineral-rich soak to end the day.

Back at the hotel, let Tuscany unfold through its wines. Our sommelier-led tastings bring together the region’s finest – Morellino, Chianti, Nobile di Montepulciano, and Brunello – while for those eager to expand their horizons, the “Viaggio in Italia” tasting takes you across Italy, from Friuli’s crisp whites to the bold reds of Piemonte. Keen to explore more libations outside the property? Then consider Montauto Winery, whose unexpected Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc from Maremma redefine what Tuscan wine making can be.
Celebrate Easter with Pellicano Hotels
One more thing to do at our properties this spring? Easter! Whether by the sea at Hotel Il Pellicano, surrounded by history at La Posta Vecchia, or on the peaceful shores of Ischia at Mezzatorre, our hotels offer the perfect setting for a relaxed and food-filled Easter getaway this season.
