Four New Year’s Eve Cocktail Recipes Inspired by Il Pellicano

Four New Year’s Eve Cocktail Recipes Inspired by Il Pellicano

Christmas Cocktail by Federico Morosi, Hotel il Pellicano

Ring in the new year with these curated tipples by Hotel Il Pellicano Bar Manager Federico Morosi

Whether you’re planning a glittering party or a quiet domestic affair, one thing is certain: New Year’s Eve calls for a little indulgence, a lot of cheer, and the right tipple to welcome the year ahead.

For many, that tipple is of course prosecco. But if you want to reach further afield, why not consider a cocktail (or two)?

Fancy drinks can add a touch of pizazz to any evening, they look fab in the right glassware, and make for much more interesting alternatives to the more obvious bubbles (as much as we love them, of course).

To get you inspired, we’ve enlisted Hotel Il Pellicano Bar Manager Federico Morosi to help. A driving force in the art of mixology, Morosi is the mastermind behind the astonishing alcoholic inventions of the two bars at Il Pellicano – Bar All’Aperto and Bar Roberto – and a bit of a cocktail wunderkind in his own right.

We’ve asked him to create four cocktails designed to take you from aperitivo to midnight. So read on and prepare yourself for some seriously stylish sipping.

FOR THE PERFECT APERITIVO

CHRISTMAStini

Christmas Cocktail by Federico Morosi, Hotel il Pellicano

“This take on the classic martini makes the most of the festive season,” says Morosi. “The succulent pomegranate is tart and fragrant, while the cinnamon brings a touch of sweetness, constructing a unique, well-balanced drink.”

Ingredients

  • Seven pomegranate seeds
  • Maraschino liqueur
  • 25ml gin
  • Ice
  • Cinnamon powder

Method

  1. Wet the pomegranate seeds with a dash of Maraschino liqueur, then place them in a shaker or mixing glass.
  2. Add ice and gin.
  3. Stir well, then strain into a chilled, small coupette.
  4. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top.

AGRUMETTO

Christmas Cocktail by Federico Morosi, Hotel il Pellicano

“This cocktail is a refreshing, zesty celebration of citrus flavours – the ideal opener to dinner,” says Morosi.

Ingredients

  • One tablespoon of lemon marmalade
  • Juice of one mandarin
  • 25ml vodka

Method

  1. Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail tin and shake well.
  2. Serve in a chilled coupette with a slice of mandarin or lemon as garnish.
  3. For a lighter version, add a dash of prosecco and use a flute instead of a cocktail glass.

FOR THOSE SKIPPING THE ALCOHOL

CHRISTMAS PUNCH

“Not everyone might want to drink on NYE, and that’s ok,” says Morosi. “This cocktail offers an equally fun and delectable alternative to any alcoholic potion.”

Ingredients

  • 15 ml of fresh apple juice
  • A cup of mix red fruit tea, chilled
  • Cinnamon and orange slices to garnish

Method

  1. Build the ingredients over cubed ice in a highball glass.
  2. Stir and add a stick of cinnamon or orange slice to garnish.

FOR THE COUNTDOWN

GIOTTO

“Not everyone might want to drink on NYE, and that’s ok,” says Morosi. “This cocktail offers an equally fun and delectable alternative to any alcoholic potion.”This pairs very well with panettone,” Morosi says. “It’s rich, with an almost creamy flavour and a bit of a caffeine kick. A sweet treat to start the rest of the night.”
