Ilaria Bonacossa, director of Artissima, Italy’s most important contemporary art fair and the cultural catalyst for Torino’s art scene, shares with ISSIMO what she loves in la città magica.

What makes Torino magical?

The magic of Torino is in its contrasts. A city that seems to have remained in the 19th century for its architecture surrounded by the Alps and crossed by the River Po and at the same time the centre of Italy’s industrial revolution. A city where harmony and intimate piazzas make you feel welcome.

Your favourite piazza?

My favourite is Piazza della Consolata, a small square with a magic church completely covered by ex voto. I sit there at Caffè Al Bicerin, an intimate coffee shop lit by candle light which originally opened in 1763 and look at the passersby from different generations.

Iconic dish of Torino?

Ravioli del plin, pinched ravioli with meat filling.

Street food?

Chocolate ice cream at Mara dei Boschi.
