The name Friuli Venezia Giulia is historic- from its ancient Roman origins as Forum Iulii as well as honoring both Venice and Julius Caesar.
A region of polyglots where languages spoken include Italian, Friulano, Slovenian, and some Germanic languages.
Grotta Gigante, a 351 ft high, 213 ft wide and 430 ft long cavern on the Italian side of the Karst Plateau, made the record books in 1995.
