Something magical happens when you fall in love. That goes for people, of course,  but it also applies to objects, books and, often, fashion. Discovering a label you want to buy everything from is a bit like getting a crush: suddenly, you feel seen, understood, and eager to spend a lot of time getting to know the brand in question.

Enter Amotea, our latest addition to the ISSIMO family – and a venture after our own hearts. Founded in 2019 in Rome by Diletta Amodei, the label specialises in beautiful, feminine resort wear that blends Italy’s sartorial expertise with sophisticated designs, to create garments imbued with romanticism, craftsmanship, and just very cool holiday vibes.

We sat down with Diletta to explore more of Amotea’s world. Read on, then shop the gorgeous pieces we have on ISSIMO.

Let’s start with the name. Why Amotea?

Amotea is a combination of the first half of my surname and a name I’d always loved and thought I would one day give to my daughter. I actually ended up with three boys, so when I launched the brand, I decided I would use Tea for it. It makes sense: in a way, Amotea is just a natural extension of myself and my story.

You’re not only the founder, but also the creative director for the label. What’s your background?

Funnily enough, I wasn’t in fashion before starting Amotea, although I’ve loved designing and sketching clothes since I was a child. After high school I enrolled in Rome’s Accademia di Costume e Moda but eventually switched to Communication Sciences as my final degree. I went on to work in publishing for many years, then took some time off to be with my kids. As they’ve grown older, I decided to take a chance on myself, and, in 2019, founded Amotea. I guess I finally returned to my initial passion!

What’s the biggest inspiration behind Amotea?

Italy. I draw from our country’s culture and its centuries-old history and beauty in everything I design for the brand. I like to think of Amotea as a timeless hymn to Italian lifestyle – a vision that I think we share with ISSIMO.

What’s the aesthetic besides your collections?

I’d say romanticism, elegance and femininity are the driving forces behind the clothes – with an eye towards contemporaneity. Many of our garbs show flowing silhouettes that celebrate ethereal beauty, laidback sophistication and self-confidence. I want to create curated wardrobe staples that go beyond fleeting trends.

Describe Amotea in three words.

Sophisticated, feminine, and timeless.

Why resort wear?

I think many of our pieces exude a sense of freedom similar to what one would feel on vacation. They’re fluid, light, joyful – all traits that marry so well into the world of high-end hotellerie.

What’s one aspect of the brand you’re particularly proud of?

Our commitment to sustainability. I know it’s an overused term, but we do really pay huge attention to ensuring our production processes are ethical from a social and environmental standpoint. Amotea is 100% made in Italy by a small crop of artisans we work closely with, and that fills me with pride. Everything you see is the result of local excellences in craftsmanship.

What are your plans for the summer?

I always spend July in Formentera, which I adore, so that’s where I’ll be heading. I am also hoping to take my boys to the States, New York and Los Angeles in particular. Before then, a few weekends along the Italian coastline are definitely a must.
