Magic Carpets: Nordic Knots and Campbell-Rey

A new, design-forward rug lands on ISSIMO and Hotel Il Pellicano, and we’re here for it
Rugs can transform a living space. They can add character and a touch of luxury, plush vibes and oodles of style. Display a beautiful carpet on any floor – wooden, tiled, marble – and you’ll immediately change the mood of the entire room, bringing in an accent of BellISSIMO panache with very little effort.
That is all to say: we love a good tappeto. We love it even more when it comes from one of the design world’s most covetable collabs of recent seasons: London-based design studio Campbell-Rey and Swedish rug company Nordic Knots. And we’re over the moon when said collab creates a floor piece specifically for ISSIMO and our Hotel Il Pellicano – which just happened.

An Il Pellicano-Inspired Rug

For those unfamiliar with Campbell-Rey and Nordic Knots: the two ventures first teamed up in 2021 for a Gustavian-inspired collection that weaved together French neoclassicism influences with modern Swedish interpretations and British cool.
The series was a hit, flaunting three distinct pieces that were playful and fresh, mixing floral motifs with graphic patterns.
Among them, Climbing Vine, featuring intertwined chartreuse vines on a lilac background and a stunning art deco outline, caught the attention of our founder Marie Louise Sciò. “I was immediately drawn to the vine design,” she said. “I find it brings a certain versatility so it can work in every room.”
The idea of reinterpreting it for Il Pellicano and ISSIMO came naturally – as did getting Nordic Knots and Campbell-Rey involved with the reimagining.
Fast-forward to today, and the result is now out in the world. As of this month, the updated Nordic Knots and Campbell-Rey Climbing Vine rug will join the interiors of the Tuscan hotel, and be available for purchase on ISSIMO.
While the design bears the same contemporary take of a classic motif as the original Climbing Vine – a line of scrolling foliage that shoots around the edge of the rug – the colourway is what makes it perfect for Il Pellicano.

Unsurprisingly, Il Pellicano served as main muse for it.

“The spirit of Italian Dolce Vita has always been a great inspiration of ours and few places embody this as beautifully as Monte Argentario’s iconic Hotel Il Pellicano” said Charlotte Rey and Duncan Campbell of Campbell-Rey. When it came to reimaging the rug, the creatives went to work to create a version that would “pay homage to this magical place,” and fulfil Marie Louise’ wish to “reflect the area and its surrounding landscape.” To that end, they drew from the rich terracotta hues of the property’s buildings, and the deep greens of its lush vegetation and immaculately kept gardens.
The final product fittingly channels that earthy, organic palette. “The warm sienna and cotto hue make it feel entirely authentic to Il Pellicano” Marie Louise said.
We agree: elegant and eye-catching, not to mention designed to last, being handmade by Indian artisans from New Zealand wool, the Climbing Vine rug exudes the same timelessness, craftsmanship and flair that defines our Pelli world.
